Fort Richardson State Park & Historic Site and BSA Venturing Crew 1872 is hosting a Living History Weekend for youth, ages 13 to 20, over the first weekend of spring break. Participants will learn frontier history, military traditions, participate in evening programs, dismounted cavalry drills, how to safely handle period firearms, participate in a battle reenactment. Participants will be provided with uniforms, equipment, firearms, food, etc. Participants should bring black or brown hiking shoes, camping clothes, sleeping bag and camping mattress and toiletries. you will be sleeping in the fort’s barracks.
Recruits will “muster in” on Friday night (between 6:00 and 7:00 PM) and be uniformed and equipped. Saturday they will tour, drill, and practice with Spencer carbines. The program will culminate Sunday with a with a battle reenactment. Monday morning, we will muster out at 9:00 am.
